“Faith and reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth; and God has placed in the human heart a desire to know the truth—in a word, to know himself—so that, by knowing and loving God, men and women may also come to the fullness of truth about themselves.” (St. John Paul II, Fides et Ratio, 1998, Introduction)
This is one of my favorite quotes of all time, and it resonates in the core of this website’s mission statement.
If I want to soar to the heights and attain the truth I seek, my wings better not be lopsided. How to balance my faith and reason, however, is a deep question. I feel that I have a responsibility to explore both faith and reason and seek out the principles of being, knowledge, and action that can guide me in my search for truth. It should not surprise me if this quest raises more questions than it answers, for it is the quest of a lifetime.
